Horror Just One Click Away

Horror+Just+One+Click+Away

If you are a die-hard horror fan like me, you probably know the magazine “Fangoria.” At its start in 1979, it was a big deal for horror fans. Finally there was a magazine to read about upcoming horror films and read reviews about current ones. Horror was THE genre of the decade that was the 80s. Now years later, horror fans like me-and people who want to add some gore to their Halloween nights–can go to Bloody-Disgusting.com (I know the name is a turnoff).

On this social-networking, horror-themed site, online users can interact with one another, send messages, friend one another, and comment on the articles posted on the main page. The articles give news on upcoming horror movies such as the upcoming “Texas Chainsaw 3D,” a sequel to the classic horror series; the remakes of cult classic horror films such as “Carrie” and “The Evil Dead;” and TV shows such as “Dexter” and “Mockingbird Lane,” a famous reimagining of the classic 60s sitcom “The Munsters.” The site also posts articles about famous actors of the genre like Sid Haig; reviews about films such as “Paranormal Activity 4” and “Sinister”; and DVD and toy releases.

The home-page layout is very unique in design and in color, with the main color scheme of red, white, and black. The areas of exploration are vast with specific sections. For example, the movie section contains information of upcoming horror films, reviews of horror films, trailers and teasers for upcoming TV shows, and poster art and pictures of various horror related projects. Another section is the video game section contains information about upcoming horror video and PC games, reviews for the games, and the information of horror games currently in development. Also worth checking out is the comics section, containing information of comic books currently selling and in development. Last is the music section, with upcoming music videos and album releases by famous bands and singers around the world.

Even with all this great  content, there is still more to check out because there is a subsection with  news, reviews, interviews, exclusives, videos and podcasts. There is also a Contests section with prizes such as Blu-rays and DVDs, film merchandise, and even tickets for upcoming movies. The competitions are as simple as going to a website and typing in a certain key phrase, then giving your email address for a chance to win the prize.

With all this variety of content, information, and so many chances to win prizes and with a very memorable, colorful, and unique design and layout of the website, it’s crazy to believe this is a social media website as well as, giving you the chance to upload photos, comment on articles, and a chance to interact with horror fans around the world (and like Facebook, it’s free!). It is a social website, very unique and special it its own right-and for horror fans, it’s truly amazing (even if the name is slightly off-putting). I signed up and became a user the first time I saw it, and I have not regretted it since. I recommend this site to horror fans who are very loyal and passionate about the genre.
