Editor’s Note: This is the third in a series of 18 stories about this semester’s Principal’s Recognition Award winners who were recognized on Wednesday, April 20 for outstanding achievement in specific programs. Senior Jacqueline Chis received the English Award and was nominated by Ms. Sharon Swanson.
If you were to walk into Ms. Sharon Swanson’s yearbook class during first period, you would find senior Jacqueline Chis typing away in a corner or helping out students. Chis was recognized for her hard work and perseverance by the English department after being nominated for the award by nominated by English teacher Sharon Swanson
“Ms. Swanson has consistently given me opportunities to grow and I’m so grateful for every single one of them. If anything has earned me an award, it’s the fact that I work really hard to make the people who have given me the chance to excel proud that they put their time and faith in me,” she said.
Chis’s modesty shines through as she gushes about her staff that has helped her come a far as she has.
“If I didn’t have such a great yearbook staff, I wouldn’t be a good editor,” she said.
Swanson believes that Chis possess a variety of qualities that make her the perfect editor for Spectrum, Niles West’s yearbook.
“She is amazing in every possible way. She is smart, she’s sweet, she’s funny. She has street smarts and common sense and intellect and she’s fun. There have been issues in the past with editors who have problems communicating. She’s the perfect kid. She’s like a renaissance woman. She’s just everything. She knows how to talk to people. She’s a good writer, she has good ideas, and she’s very insightful. She’s responsible,” Swanson said.
