There’s nothing better than the latest celebrity couple. It’s so awesome when news of their relationship takes up every inch of pop culture and no body can escape it (I hope you could feel the sarcasm in that sentence). It has gotten slightly out of hand in my opinion with Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce. I’m by no means a hater to either of these people. I am a Taylor Swift fan, I wouldn’t consider myself a Swiftie, but I do enjoy some of her music and I like what she represents. I also like sports, I don’t love football, but I like it enough to watch it with my family.
At first I was like, ok I’m seeing this on TikTok and basic pop culture websites. This is normal. Then I tuned into the Chiefs vs. Jets game and saw that she was there. It was nothing too out of the ordinary for them to cut to her in the skybox or with Kelce’s mom. It was fine, and it was clever when they began the game broadcast by playing Swift’s song, “Welcome to New York,” since the Jets are from New York. One time they cut to a commercial by playing another one of Swift’s songs, “Cornelia Street,” and showed the street sign. It was funny to see as a fan of Swift.
TikTok videos keep increasing in numbers. Another funny trend was seeing girls tell their boyfriends that Taylor “put Travis on the map,” and seeing them argue back. It’s silly. Then as the weeks go on, the NFL keeps beating the horse with this relationship. Everywhere we turn, it’s all about Taylor and Travis. At the most recent game that she was at, my dad was saying they cut to her 14 times throughout the game. That’s about three times per quarter. The people who watch the NFL are there for the football, not Taylor. This is just getting to be too much. I don’t care too much for football or for the Chiefs, but come on, let it rest. They even had a wooden sign of Travis and Patrick Mahomes, typical since they are the stars of the Chiefs. Tell me why they had a smaller cutout of Taylor behind Travis! I had to stop watching at that point because I was so annoyed with how much they blew up this relationship.
Let’s keep in mind, THEY HAVE NOT CONFIRMED THEIR RELATIONSHIP. They have never confirmed if they are a thing or not. This is of course because they are most likely in a PR relationship. This makes sense because “1989 Taylor’s Version,” will come out on Oct. 27. I can understand this relationship for the benefit of Taylor in some way, but I am confused on why Travis needs this attention. He already plays on one of the best teams in the NFL and is very successful. How this stunt came to be is confusing to me. Why does the NFL want the Swifties to watch football? They already have their target audience down. This is by no means a jab at football fans or Swifties. I watch football and I like Taylor, so I can be the audience to both sides.
All the while I think this relationship will be over by November.
