Last Friday, Feb. 9, Kanye West and Ty Dolla $ign released their new album “VULTURES 1.” The album consists of 16 songs, and each song on this album has a different vibe and feeling to it. This album is very enjoyable to listen to.
The album starts off with “STARS.” This song reminded me of some of West’s older songs, especially because of the beat. It starts off with kind of slower background vocals. Then, West starts to blend his rapping with the background vocals. It sounds very angelic or heavenly in a way and it is a good way to start off the album. It is a shorter song too, and it sets the rest of the album very well.
As the album continues, the songs get longer and more upbeat. I would have to say my favorite songs on the album were “STARS,” “CARNIVAL,” “BURN,” “FUK SUMN” and “PAPERWORK”. “PAPERWORK” is very upbeat, and the beat is very different from the rest of the songs on the album. When I first listened to it, I expected it to be another slower song, but after the first 30 seconds, there was so much going on. You would think with all the different beats mixing together, it would be too much, but everything actually blends together so well. The only thing I did not really like about this song is the repetition of some words in the middle of the song. I get that a lot of artists do this, but with how much was already going on with this song, it was too much.
My favorite song on this album is definitely “BURN.” I was not expecting West and Ty Dolla $ign to drop a song like this, but I am so glad they did. This song is perfect and I rate it an 11/10. It sounds like something that would have been on one of West’s older albums, and I think that is why I enjoyed it so much. To be honest, I prefer West’s older songs way more than his newer ones, but this song had elements of both. It was nostalgic, but also different at the same time. The beat is one of those beats you can just bop your head to, and the lyrics are so catchy. It is just a very fun song.
Personally, I think this album was pretty good. I would not say it was my favorite album, nothing can even come close to “My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy” or “The Life of Pablo.” However, putting those aside, the songs were actually really enjoyable, and the beats were cool. West definitely wanted to try something a little different with this album- and it worked. I would rate this album an 8/10.
