Opinion: TikTok Needs to Stop Hyping up Summer

Opinion%3A+TikTok+Needs+to+Stop+Hyping+up+Summer

Summer is coming up, my favorite season, and hopefully, it exceeds all of my expectations. With it being my second to last summer break before college, I truly believe that this is going to be the best summer of the year; especially after ending one of the hardest years of high school. However, isn’t every summer lived up to be the best summer of the year?

Throughout my whole For You Page (FYP) on TikTok, I see videos upon videos where both guys and girls are saying how this year is going to be the best summer of our lives. But every year, everybody on TikTok always hypes up summer and then it is honestly just boring. Last year I was even excited for school to start because I was so bored doing the same thing every day.

Personally, I think TikTokers, or influencers, build up the expectations of summer for no reason. They even do this with products that they promote it I sometimes even believe it is going to fix all my problems with this one product, but at least they are getting paid for those promotion videos.

Also, TikTok makes it seem that everyone is going to travel the world this summer or have fun adventures with friends and family. And almost every year, my friends and I are just at the beach every day. However, this is a special summer because I am going to Bosnia & Herzegovina during the months of June and July. I get to stay there for three weeks with my grandparents and sister and I am so excited. However, before and after my vacation to Europe, I am going to be working my two jobs and doing Niles West summer camp for Volleyball.

Additionally, I feel as though “summer is going to be the best year” is an ongoing trend. These TikTokers want to ensure their video goes viral, so they go along with the trends. Although, this trend is getting old. Tiktokers are always using classic hashtags and engaging visuals, as well. To be honest I every time I open TikTok and scroll for a couple of minutes I see one video talking about this summer. It’s getting old.

I have since downplayed summer to not get myself excited for the disappointment that I will face by the beginning of summer. Don’t get me wrong, being in school is a plus. Summer is like when you first get your drivers license because you want to pick everyone up at first, but then after two weeks you get bored. I can’t wait for summer because I want to get tan, but TikTok really needs to stop hyping up summer when it is going to be exactly like every summer I have had since Freshman year. Please don’t overhype summer!
