The leaves are turning vibrant shades of red and burnt orange, while candle-lit pumpkins line the streets. The crisp chill in the air matches the cloudy afternoons, followed by pitch-black evenings illuminated by moonlight. It is officially spooky season and Halloween is right around the corner. What are you going to be for Halloween? Here are some predictions for this year’s popular costumes based on 2024 trends.
Beyoncé and P. Diddy
The first prediction is a duo costume, singers Beyoncé and P. Diddy. Since they hit the news outlets with Diddy’s charges and Beyoncé’s suspected involvement, the internet took over with memes. They have been trending on TikTok, X, Instagram and more with memes and speculations about Diddy’s parties and saying ‘thank you’ to Beyoncé. Diddy would be easy to dress up as: a black suit and tie with square sunglasses and his infamous goatee. As for Beyoncé, any silver clothing to represent her ‘Renaissance’ tour and a cowboy hat for her album ‘Cowboy Carter’ would fit nicely. These costumes are likely to be worn as a duo for the reference to be understood. This is a solid prediction for teenagers or young adults who use social media. Although they could be seen as funny costumes, some may find it objectionable.
Kid Danger/Henry Hart from Henry Danger
The next prediction comes from Henry Danger, a Nickelodeon TV show that ended in 2020, but has resurfaced on TikTok this fall. The main character Henry Hart has been all over ‘for you’ pages with new memes, where he falls or gives someone a side-eye, captioned with a relatable scenario. Henry Hart is secretly a superhero, Kid Danger (as shown in the photo above). Since the show’s memes were posted, they have spread across social. This costume is fit for a person of any age and can be found at a local Spirit Halloween, thus making it easy to dress up as. The outfit is easily recognizable by young adults or current teenagers who used to watch the show when they were young. It adds elements of nostalgia, but also humor for teens online. This is predictable for teens to wear as a joke and reference to the trending memes.
Leopard
Popular since the 2000s, leopard print is back in style. Not only have people been wearing leopard print, but they have also been turning their faces into leopards. This trend began on TikTok at the beginning of October and has not died out. This makes it predictable that the look will continue into Halloween. It would be a simple costume: any clothing with leopard print and a heavy focus on leopard-themed makeup. This trend will predictably be a costume for teen girls or boys since it has been on TikTok for some time. Leopards will likely be found at Halloween parties or trick-or-treating with adult supervision.
Art the Clown
This prediction is terrifying and truly captures the Halloween spirit. Art the Clown is the villain from the trilogy ‘Terrifier’, a gory set of movies for older teenagers and adults. ‘Terrifier 3’ was released the week before Halloween and has hit the big screens. Art is another character who has taken the internet by storm with his contrasting silly attitude and violent murders. He is one of the few horror characters trending and has been around since 2008. He is known by young adults for his black and white makeup, clown outfit and small top hat. Not only can his costume be found at Spirit Halloween, but also his animatronic figure. Art will predictably be found trick-or-treating on your street, worn by people of older ages.
Lana from Dress to Impress
The last prediction comes from the video game Roblox. Over the summer, Roblox hit the trending page with their game Dress to Impress (DTI). Players go head-to-head on a runway to model their best outfits according to a unique theme. Along with the premise lies a dark backstory of the in-game esthetician Lana. Lana is a character suspected of kidnapping and murder, which makes some people see her as a horror character. Lana can easily be made into a costume: a white long-sleeve and dress pants, along with brown hair slicked back into a bun, complimented by her dark eyes and light lip combination. Predictably, middle schoolers and some high schoolers will dress up as Lana because of DTI’s popularity on TikTok. DTI has become a memorable part of pop culture, certainly recognizable by teens on social media. This costume is predictable for teens/kids to wear as humorous or horrifying.
Following the tradition of students dressing up, Niles West has set expectations for costumers. If you plan on wearing your costume at school on Thursday, you must follow the dress code in the D219 student handbook. The basic rules are as follows: costumes cannot include masks, look-a-like weapons, representation of drugs/alcohol, misappropriation of races, culture, religions and/or gender and components that disrupt a classroom. Face paint is permitted as long as it does not cover your entire face. The costumes on this list follow these guidelines and hopefully, we’ll see these roaming the hallways. Happy Halloween!
