While many people love Thanksgiving, others can’t wait for the big day after, Black Friday. An annual tradition when stores mark down their prices for shoppers to get a great deal before the holidays begin. Many people will camp outside of stores starting as early as 3 a.m. in hopes to be the firsts inside. While many stores often have a clearance section, Black Friday is the big day where you are able to get a great deal on almost everything.
Don’t get me wrong, I love a good deal due to the absurd prices on some items and I’ll often walk straight to the clearance section. Black Friday is the one day where higher quality items get marked down to a reasonable price. However, these past years, Black Friday just hasn’t been the same as it once was.
Many stores start their deals days or even weeks before, ruining the concept of Black “Friday”: the one day where you are only able to get these great deals. The problem of sales starting so early has caused online stores to also participate. Many people wouldn’t complain about this if there wasn’t a specific day for online deals, Cyber Monday. Online stores and Amazon are taking over because of the easy access of just opening your phone while siting on the couch. The idea that you don’t have to get up and drive to a busy store appeals to many people. I will admit it is useful at times when you don’t want to drive far or you need next day delivery fast online shopping is the way to go, but because online stores are also participating in black Friday deals along with starting them early many people just don’t participate anymore.
Lines would form and stores would be packed years before outside of popular stores. As online stores started to gain popularity and stores started to share their deals days before there is not a point of getting up while the sun is still hidden. In past years there have been fights and arguments over certain deals at stores which made Black Friday a big deal, items were priced so low stores would flood with people. This is not the case now.
Another problem with Black Friday are stores will set prices super high then put their “50% off!” sign up which would make it equal out to the original price of said item. Many people noticed this problem at Sephora with the popular blowdryer the “Dyson Airwrap” Tik Tok have circulated with people complaing that markdowns just aren’t enough. The Dyson is one expensive item and Black Friday is a chance to get it cheaper. But with the Huge uncharge and only 20 dollars off that doesn’t really make it a “deal.”
Some might say Black Friday is the best day and they will commit to getting cheaper prices. With all these recent changes there is n0t a point in going out anymore. Black Friday was once a big popular day where everyone would be out shopping but now…people are at home ordering their items online or waiting for online deals on Cyber Monday.
