The fire alarms went off for an unknown reason this morning around 7:35 a.m. Students and teachers evacuated as Skokie Fire Department fire trucks arrived at Niles West.
According to Assistant Principal Steve Parnther, the situation is currently under review by the school administration.
“We are working with our local fire department to potentially figure out the main cause of the evacuation and the alarm. At this point, we’re still assessing, so I can’t tell [the cause] for certain, but our school did a great job of following our protocol of exiting the building…Our goal is to locate the why: Why did we have to evacuate? What triggered the alarm? We’re also looking at our procedures if everyone exited the building, and if there is something else that we need to make note of moving forward. Our goal is to make sure everybody is as safe as possible and to continue to improve our procedures and look at what we want to change further,” Parnther said.
After around 10 minutes outside, students re-entered the building and resumed the school day.
