Niles West was evacuated around 3:02 p.m., when the fire alarms went off. Students and staff exited the building, where they were instructed to make their way to the Niles West football stadium around 3:10 p.m. Principal Jeremy Christian announced that students could exit the field around 3:27 p.m.
Students who get picked up were instructed to go to doors five and six, while students who take the bus were instructed to walk west, where the buses were parked. Students who drive were instructed to make their way to the parking lot.
Christian made an announcement over the field’s P.A. system around 3:39 p.m.
“Students, here’s the deal. You can go back into the building. Everything is safe. We are good…We will have sports today, but I need you to be very watchful and diligent. Again, I need you to take your time…I’m going to ask you to get your things and come back this way. The buses will be here, they are not going anywhere,” Christian said.
The reason for the evacuation is currently unknown. According to Christian, the reason will be announced tomorrow.
