The Morton Grove Public Library is scheduled to hold an art show tonight, with a grand opening of the special exhibit starting at 6. The art exhibit will be open for a month and will feature art exclusively by Niles West art students.
The art show, which has been going on for the past three years, has featured solely Niles West art for the past two years. The types of art displayed include paintings, drawing, print-making, designs, photography, and ceramics.
“The show mainly features upperclassmen, but sometimes a few underclassmen’s work make its way in. The show has anywhere from 25 to 30 pieces of art. We used to do an opening reception, but have moved away from that. Now students will receive a certificate of participation and have their art on public display for the month of February,” said art teacher John Zilewicz.
Students whose work is featured include Danielle Klemens, Jason Lupas, Jeanette Habash, Sofiya Shyriy, Nashiha Alam, Viki Tomic, Beata Soltys, Tiffani Neal, Jessica Phan, Barbara Magiera, Imaani Ali, Nadiya Choi, Karoleen Oshana, Amanda White, Angelika Przewoznik, and many others.
“Basically, Mr. Z gives us a subject to base our art on. In my case, I’m independent, so I just draw or create whatever I want. Last year, I won first place in the drawing portion. It’s pretty cool because one time, there was a judge from the Art Institute,” said one the featured artists, junior Jessica Phan.
