I love every aspect of the doctor’s office. Growing up, I didn’t go much, only yearly check-ups and occasional visits for having the flu, so I didn’t grow to love from being there I was there everyday. Instead, the environment it brought from the smell of alcohol wipes, to the mural of aquatic animals with coral reef structures, made me feel comfortable rather than scared of the office.
Many people I know hate the doctors office, and I mean truly hate it. They think it’s gross because sick people go to the doctors office, obviously. Not only do they hate it because they think they will get sick, but because of the procedures you have to go through. From getting a shot to having blood drawn, most people don’t enjoy it, but for me, I do.
Immediately when I get called in from the waiting room, my doctor checks all my vitals. They always start with my blood pressure. Strapping the blood pressure cuff around me, they pump it up and release the gauge. The ability to feel my own pulse is so fascinating to me.
Regarding shots, it’s amazing how different sizes of needles correspond to the body part it is used for. Once a shot goes in your arm and you feel the injection, it’s a sensation unlike any other. After receiving the shot, my arm is never sore no matter how many I’ve gotten. To me, getting shots is the one thing I think people overreact about.
Another bonus of going to the doctor’s office as a student in school is most parents call you out during class. If your parents schedule your appointment after school or on days when there is no school, I feel sorry.
Still to this day, I get stickers and treats from the doctor’s office after my checkups. The environment of my doctor’s office is comforting and they treat me the same as when they first met me. I don’t mind the childish nature, I actually enjoy it. To be frank, I think that’s one of the main aspects of why I love it, because of the special treats.
People may think it’s weird to love going to the doctor’s office, but it fascinates me how shots feel in your arm as the medicine goes in. From all the things I’ve said so far, it might be obvious I am pursuing a health career, so I also think I love doctor’s offices because I hope to work there in the future.
