The girls varsity volleyball team played against Grayslake North on Tues. Oct., 2. The team had a successful turnout, winning the game in two sets.
Head coach and physical education teacher Stacy Roth felt the team performed well and were consistent throughout the entire game.
“I think the team played well. They kept their level of play up even when they were up by a lot of points… they did well on executing the plays, serving tough, and limiting their errors,” Roth said.
Junior Faith Blickhahn was happy with the team’s accuracy while playing but felt that they could improve their focus throughout the entire game.
“I feel like we did well having limited errors and keeping our energy up the whole time… I think we need to work on starting strong from the beginning and staying focused the whole time,” Blickhahn said.
Junior and co-captain Sydney Ordower also believes the team did really well skill wise, but felt they could have been better with their energy.
“We did well on running our plays and our serving was strong… We could work on our consistency with our energy though, because sometimes it is super good but if we make a couple errors it can get worse and we aren’t connecting as well as a team or running our different trick plays,” Ordower said.
Ordower noted that the team was able to correct their energy during the game.
“We have different cheers and chants that we say when we make good plays… We talked about it in one of our timeouts that we needed to pick up the energy and start getting hype for each point, after that timeout… we started to connect better as a team,” Ordower said.
The team has gone undefeated in conference for the past two years, and they are halfway through continuing that record, standing at 6-0. Ordower thinks the team’s record proves they could handle a different conference.
“If we win all ten games our varsity will be at 30-0 in conference for these past three years which will make a big statement and show we deserve to be in the better conference” Ordower said.
The team hopes to achieve their goal of going undefeated this season, extending the three-year streak. If successful, they will be 30–0, and Roth has a plan to help the team get there during practices.
