I know hoodies are supposed to be the comfiest things, but I would choose a crewneck any day. Hoodies just don’t work for me. Every time I try to wear one, I end up annoyed, overheated, or feeling like I’m being suffocated. Meanwhile, crewnecks fit perfectly without giving me problems.
The hood itself never fits right with a jacket or a vest. Whenever I wear a jacket over a hoodie, the hood is puffed up behind and it makes me look like a hunchback. Especially in the winter when coats are a necessity, a hoodie cannot properly fit underneath it. If I pull out the hood, it gets too high and the collar begins to choke me. But if I leave it underneath, I have an awkward lump that then gets in the way of me wearing my jacket. There’s no in between. Also, when I wear a vest, the hood gets bent and twisted and it just looks horrible. No matter how many different brands or styles I try, the hood always seems to stick out weirdly and sit in a way that feels wrong.
Hoodies are always seen as comfy and relaxing; however, to me they are irritating. I find myself always pulling down at the collar of my hoodie as I feel it creeping up. No matter what I’m doing, I always feel it pressing against my neck. I especially hate the feeling of putting on my backpack and my hood being pulled back; I feel like I’m suffocating. Having a hoodie on overstimulates me and I find that crew necks come with way less of a hassle.
Everyone raves about clean girl hoodies and I never understood why. I bought an Aritzia hoodie and again the hood just didn’t fit right. I tried it on and the hood was such an awkward size. I always see people wearing them and they definitely can pull them off. Yet I just cannot manage myself looking “clean” in a hoodie that is suffocating me.
However, crewnecks are a staple in my closet. Brandy Melville sells some of my favorite crewnecks that give the perfect oversized fit. I love how easy they are to wear. They layer smoothly under jackets and vests without creating weird bumps or awkward shapes. They also look clean without trying too hard, and I don’t have to keep fixing or adjusting them throughout the day.
Some people swear by hoodies, but for me, crewnecks are way better. They’re comfortable, simple, and don’t come with all the annoying problems that hoodies bring. In the battle between the two, crewnecks win every time.
