SoundWaves at Gaylord Opryland Resort in Nashville, Tennessee is a four-acre water park that offers both indoor and outdoor attractions. From the park’s indoor surfing to its 11 water slides, SoundWaves provides visitors an experience like no other.
SoundWaves first opened in early December of 2018. Manager Donny Wensinger has been working at the park for the past five years. For Wensinger, the park’s luxury experience is what sets it apart from other resorts.
“The biggest difference here at SoundWaves is really our attitude, our mindset,” Wensinger said. “We want to provide our guests with an incredible luxury experience…We have a much smaller capacity, and we really cater to that family experience.”
The park’s 111,000 square foot indoor attraction is open year round. Inside, visitors can find a lazy river, a FlowRider, waterslides, an adult-only pool and Decibels™, the attraction’s restaurant. Below the water park, families can visit the park’s arcade which offers a variety of games and a climbing wall.
According to Food and Beverage Manager Brett Farr, Decibels is a great place to get family friendly food during a visit.
“[We offer] quick bites that are actually filling and nourishing,” Farr said. “The menu changes seasonally…It kind of fluctuates with whatever we’re seeing as a trend in food and beverage in the general area…and the needs and desires of the staff here too.”
Carrie Mitchell works at the park. She believes anyone can have an enjoyable time at SoundWaves.
“We keep it warm during the winter time, so you can come anytime you want,” Mitchell said. “We have drinks for the adults, slides for the kids and a wave pool for anybody. It’s fun.”
Front desk agent Reanna Miles has worked at SoundWaves for six months. This is her fourth job, and she describes it as her favorite.
“My managers are very nice to me,” Miles said. “They listen to [our complaints]. Overall, it is a very good place to work at.”
The park’s 106,000 square foot outdoor park is open during the summer. A guest favorite attraction is the Tidal Track Wave Pool. It goes six feet deep, and releases waves every 10 to 15 seconds. Above the pool, there is an LED screen that guests can view. Wensinger enjoys seeing guests having fun at the park.
“Guests love the wave pool,” Wensinger said. “My favorite part is just seeing the guests’ happiness after a long or stressful day. I can walk around the park and see those families having fun. The big smiles on the little kids, they just make my day.”
