The Lady Varsity Pommers recently traveled to State to compete at the Team Dance Illinois State Championship Competition in the Hip Hop 4A Catrgory. The pommers competed against 12 other dance teams in the Illinois region and placed 8th.
“Even though many of us were sick or injured, we all pulled through and executed an awesome, energy filled performance,” said senior captain Mary Vo.
The ladies’ season has been one of the longest, starting in July of 2011. They have achieved many set goals, which they hoped to achieve in the beginning of the season. The team worked hard, resulting in them qualifying for Nationals, traveling to Disney World, qualifying for State, placing eighth, and learning a variety of dances this season to perform at Varsity basketball games.
Every time the team went to a competition and received their results, the entire team went over and re-watched the performance to see what needs to be changed and fixed. Vo immediately came up with new ideas for different dance moves to incorporate in the dance, given her love of having different levels in the dances with a variety of different techique.
Team captains Evangeline Alpogianis, Mary Vo, and Elizabeth Mangulabnan were happy with the results.
“This team set out to accomplish a lot this year and they did it with a lot of hard work and a lot of heart. I couldn’t be more proud of them,” said Varsity Coach Christine Selander.
