Niles West’s SAVE Club is sponsoring a shoe drive in order to donate shoes to Nike ReUse A Shoe. The organization can then use the worn-out shoes by recycling them into new places like playgrounds, running tracks, football fields, basketball courts and more.Niles Township is participating with the Skokie Park District’s Spring Greening event which runs from March through April 27, 2012. All the collected shoes from Niles West and Niles North will be brought to the shoe recycling station at North on April 29, 2012, where the Skokie Park District staff will later transport the shoes to their ultimate destination. This year’s goal is to collect 500 pairs between both West and North to exceed last year’s total of 300 pairs.
All athletic shoes are accepted in any brand. Damp or muddy shoes are not accepted. Dress shoes, sandals, cleats, shoes with metal, and flip flops are also not allowed.
