Niles West will host its annual Accolades Ceremony on May 16 at 7:30 pm. Prior to the ceremony there will be a mandatory rehearsal at 5 pm.
The Accolades ceremony recognizes students who have excelled in academics, fine arts, and athletics. The ceremony starts off with the jazz bands performance and proceeds onwards with a speech and the Pledge of Allegiance. Students are then awarded awards which can be in the form of plaques, scholarships, and certificates according to students and activities director Jessica Ogulnik.
“This is one of the few times a year that students are recognized for all that they have given to Niles West during their years here. It is a very heart-warming evening,” said Ogulnik.
According to English teacher Sharon Swanson this event acknowledges those students who have worked very hard throughout their time at Niles West.
“Accolades is to acknowledge those exceptional students who go to West who have done exceptionally well in various ways,” said Swanson.
