For seniors, high school has almost come to a close. However, before celebrations can begin, there are a few important dates to remember:
On Friday, May 18, will be graduation cap and gown pick up. It will be outside the contest gym during lunch periods. Seniors must bring along the yellow ticket that was signed by their counselors earlier this week, as well as ticket order forms. With the ticket order forms, seniors are allowed up to four tickets for the graduation ceremony, as well as being able to request handicapped seating. In order to request up to two additional tickets, please attach a written request to Assistant Principal Kendall Griffin to the ticket order form. Seniors may also feel free to wear college apparel on this day.
Saturday, May 19, of course, is prom at the Hyatt Hotel in Rosemont. The complimentary coach bus to prom will leave Niles West at 6:00 PM. After 8:00 PM, students will not be allowed to enter prom. (Any exceptions must be cleared with Peggy Glaubke, the Junior Cabinet sponsor.) Prom will last until midnight, and the optional Post-Prom will last until 4 AM.
Next week, from Tuesday, May 22 to Friday, May 25 will be senior finals. Friday will be the final school day for seniors. On that day, all senior textbooks must be returned to the Textbook Center by 3:30 PM.
Also on Friday will be the annual Senior Send Off, which includes a free BBQ meal for seniors. Students from all years are allowed to attend, but underclassmen must pay for their meals. In order to attend the event, students need to RSVP. For information, refer to the e-mail that Student Activities Director Jessica Ogulnik sent out this week.
Wednesday, May 30 is the day of the graduation ceremony. Seniors Breakfast will be held in the cafeteria from 8:30 to 9:15 AM. At 9:15 AM, seniors will board buses that will take them to Northwestern University, where graduation rehearsal will be held. The buses will come back to Niles West at 12:30 PM. Seniors must attend both the breakfast and graduation rehearsal in order to attend the ceremony that evening. (Exceptions can only be made by contacting Principal Kaine Osburn.) For the graduation rehearsal, seniors must take the buses both to and from Northwestern. At this point, all fees and fines must be paid in order to take part in the graduation ceremony. Outside the auditorium from 12:30 to 1:30 PM will be the last time to pick up graduation caps and gowns.
That night, the graduation ceremony will take place at 7:00 PM at Northwestern University. (Seats are on a first-come, first-served basis, so it is best to arrive by 6:00 PM in order to find seating.) Seniors must be in the Welsh-Ryan Field House by 6:30 PM at the absolute latest. There is no dressing area, and there will be no lockers. After the ceremony, seniors will pick up their diplomas in the field house.
