Last week, all I heard my peers talking about was the much anticipated Drake and One Direction concerts, both of which were held on the same day. Personally, I could care less about either of those artists. Since the line up was released, only one thing has been on my mind: Warped Tour 2012!
The line up consists of over 50 bands that will be preforming on Saturday, July 7th at Tinley Park. As many of my fellow hard rock junkies probably already know, Rise Against will not be performing in Illinois. Hold back your tears, Niles West; it’s tragic, I know.
However, several other of my personal favorite bands will be performing, and they include The Used, Of Mice and Men, Breathe Carolina, All Time Low, Miss May I, Pierce the Veil, Taking Back Sunday, Blessthefall, Yellow Card, Anti Flag, Four Year Strong, New Found Glory, We the Kings, Sleeping with Sirens, Mayday Parade, Iwrestledabearonce, Motionless in White, You Me at Six, and Senses Fail, among others.
To those of you who don’t follow the glorious world of rock ‘n’ roll, these band names may sound like complete gibberish to you, but to me, this is the best thing to happen since sliced bread. I mean, seriously, nineteen of my favorite bands all playing in one night? Cue the hallelujah chorus, please.
I’ll admit that I’ve never been to Warped before, but I have been to other summer music festivals such as the Rockstar Energy Tour and Q101’s (may their memory rest in peace) Jamboree. Both of which were great experiences, but I’m sure that they won’t even come close to how amazing Warped will be. Last year, two of my best friends and sophomores Breana Brill and Gretchen Sterba went to Warped, where We the Kings performed. They had the good fortune of meeting lead singer Travis Clark.
“Warped tour was an awesome experience. Especially for concert lovers because it’s an all day thing. The atmosphere is great and I felt that after Warped Tour, I was more connected with the bands, because the vicinity is so close together, and they usually come out to meet their fans. It was one of the best days of my LIFE,” said Brill.
Unfortunately, Breana can’t come with me this year (she’ll be working hard at debate camp for a month!), sophomore Isabel Ramirez, who I call my “concert buddy” will be tagging along. Like me, she’s also super pumped.
“It’s the best line up yet! I love all of the bands that are playing. I can’t wait to go. I love going to concerts with my concert buddy!”
Isa and I will be sure to keep you posted with a review, pictures, and possible even some videos from Warped. Stay posted, Niles West, and hopefully I’ll see some of you at Warped.
