You voted, Niles West, and the decision has been made: Seniors Molly Kleppin and Faris Karaman are your 2012 Homecoming King and Queen. The NWN sat down with them for a brief interview on how it feel to be victors.
NWN: How did you feel when you were on stage waiting for them to announce King & Queen?
Faris: I felt that the whole thing was taking a long while because the suspense was killing me.
Molly: I was kind of nervous being up there. I’m not used to being on stage, and the lights were kind of blinding. I wasn’t really thinking about winning, I was just excited to be up there.
Faris: I felt that the whole thing was taking a long while because the suspense was killing me.
Molly: I was kind of nervous being up there. I’m not used to being on stage, and the lights were kind of blinding. I wasn’t really thinking about winning, I was just excited to be up there.
NWN: Were you surprised that you won?
Faris: No, because a lot of people wanted me to win.
Molly: I just wanted to make it to homecoming court, I wasn’t really expecting to win, but it is exciting.
NWN: How does it feel to have won?
Faris: It feels great!
Molly: It feels great. I feel like it’s an honor to represent our school. I’m very excited!
NWN: Do you think that it will be hard wearing the sash/tiara/crown around all day for the next week?
Faris: I think the only hard part will be changing during gym.
Molly: Well, I wanted to do crazy hair day today, but it was kind of hard with the tiara, because they kind of clash.
NWN: What are you looking forward to most for the actual homecoming dance?
Faris: The slow dance.
Molly: Just to be together as a senior class. Freshman year, we’re all kind of at the back dancing with the freshman, and now we’re at the front all dancing together as seniors.
NWN: What will you miss the most when you leave Niles West?
Faris: The diversity, the electives, the teachers, and the spirit.
Molly: I’m going to miss a lot: all the teachers, the sense of community, the environment… Every teacher has helped me in some way.
NWN: If you could be any teacher for a day, which one would you be and why?
Faris: I have no idea really because there is too many to pick.
Molly: I would probably want to be my basketball coach, Tony Konsewicz, because he’s a gym teacher and athletics is what I’m in to, so it would be fun.
