The varsity girls volleyball team fell short to the New Trier Trevians on Thursday, Nov. 1 in the sectional championship game.
Both sets were neck to neck, but in the end, the Wolves couldn’t hold on. The Trevians got to a quick jump leading 7-3 in the first set. The Wolves then responded with a sideout and the game became tied. Fighting, the Wolves got a two point lead, thanks to the serving of senior Felicia Phan. Taylor Tashima, setter on the Trevians who is also participating in the Junior Olympics, carried the team on her back with serves to reach the end. New Trier took the first set 25-16.
In the second set, the Wolves got to a quick start, leading 6-2 which resulted in a New Trier timeout. The game quickly tied up at 11s. Junior Olivia Rusek got three amazing kills which put the Wolves up 13-11. The Wolves held with the Trevians the whole game. 24-23, the Trevians lead, the ball is sent over by New Trier and Rusek answered back with a kill. 24-24. Phan was up to serve. New Trier got a quick sideout, served, and finally finished the game with two kills: 24-26
The Wolves may have lost, but a family was formed, Rusek said
“The season might be over, but these memories will last forever,” she said.
