So the other day I was loaded with at least five hours of homework (what else is new) and I was thinking about how much I missed junior high for two main reasons: less work load and less responsibility. Yeah sure, you had SOME responsibility, but to be honest it was small. I don’t think junior highs prepare you enough for your freshman year of high school. Because all of a sudden, not only are you put in a new environment or you get five more hours of work then you use to get, but you also get much more responsibility and a new-found freedom that comes so suddenly.
It was kind of shocking at first, being in high school. It was like you were a kid again, testing the rules, seeing if you can do this or that. I feel like I’m still in that state of shock of “oh wow, I’m a high schooler, no more messing around.” No more junior-high work, rules and your teachers actually have some trust in you here at West. Not that I’m complaining..
It’s just sometimes it’s really hard, when you have to balance homework, food, sports, friends, family, and sleep.
But, I’m here to tell you that it will be okay! Freshman year is really difficult, dealing with balancing everything and transitions, but just remember you have so many people here at this school that are HERE to help YOU. Surprising huh? Think about it, you have your guidance counselors who are always here to talk to you; I mean that is their job right? Then you have a countless number of teachers who are also here to help you or the Lit Center if you’re having trouble with a class. You can even talk to your dean! And don’t forget the other 800 Freshmen who surround you each day, who are experiencing pretty much the same thing.
Basically, the point is, you’re not alone. So don’t ever think you are, because I promise that you’ll be able to find at least one person you can trust here at West. That’s one of the best reasons why high school is so much better than junior high.
I’ll write to you guys later!
Have a great day,
