The Electives Fair is scheduled to be held tomorrow, Tuesday, Jan. 25, in the student commons during lunch periods to promote and advertise elective courses.
Tables will be set up with students and teachers handing out fliers and forms (and often candy) to attract students to join their classes.
Representatives from the following classes are scheduled to be at the event: Visual Art, Advanced Public Speaking, French, Math, Programming AP Stats, Business, Family and Consumer Sciences, Applied Tech, Broadcasting, Health Careers, German, Astronomy and Chinese, Anatomy and Physiology, and Journalism/Newspaper Production.
Eric Oddo, a social studies teacher, said he plans on promoting a debate class. He said, “At the table we will be handing out fliers, to show that our class is co-curricular, and that it is an honors elective and that it is also repeatable.”
Oddo said he hopes the fair will help him fill out his classes.
Teachers aren’t the only ones excited for this year’s fair.
“Next year I am planning on enrolling into a French class, and tomorrow I plan on finding out more about what French classes have to offer,” said sophomore Miyavi Jin.
The NWN (both the morning announcements and website) will also have tables at the fair. Staff members will be handing out FREE pencils and candy.

As president of German club, it makes me excited that more people are going to be enrolling in German. The language and the class themselves are full of fun and the electives fair hopefully convinced some people that it is worth trying.

It’s a good idea to introduce all of these electives to the students. Especially since some of the students are unaware of the electives Niles West offers. The idea of distributing food is another great idea since people always want free food.

The electives fair should be great. As for the debate team, we need people who are committed and who know the hard work that they’re in for.
They should also be excited because debate’s super fun once you get into it.
