Niles West students will be competing in FCCLA Sectional Competition on Friday, Feb. 22. at Harper College in Palatine.
The event is held by the nonprofit student organization Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA), which focuses on promoting development and leadership skills through Family and Consumer Sciences classes.
According to instructor Michelle Kline, 35 students will compete in three different areas: culinary, fashion, and child development.
Culinary students are competing in events such as salad demonstration and cake and cookie decorating. Fashion students will be presenting hand-sewn casual dresses and formal gowns. Child development students are doing a preschool literature event and preschool lessons.
Senior Jonathan Nguyen said he is looking forward for the upcoming event.
“I am very excited about competing in the FCCLA. I’m competing in child development,” he said. “My partner and I are preparing by working with children and presenting our project to them.”
