The annual blood drive, sponsored by the National Honors Society, is scheduled to be held on Tuesday, Feb. 26.
In order to donate blood, students must be 16 years old or older, have a signed parent permission slip, be at least 110 pounds, and be in healthy shape. Students are allowed to miss P.E. class that day if they are donating blood. According to college counselor Daniel Gin, donating blood is important because it serves to those in need of blood, and it’s a great chance to give to those people less fortunate.
“[The students] should donate, as it can save up to three people. Here is an opportunity to do something positive,” Gin said.
Junior Mashal Ghani is planning to donate blood this year for the first time.
“I want to donate blood ’cause I really want to help someone that needs it. And people should donate blood because its a really good way to help someone without putting much of an effort,” Ghani said.
Students who are donating blood should eat before they have their blood drawn, and P.E. teachers should allow the students to limit their activities during class if they complain about feeling dizzy.
Blood donating stations are going to be set up outside of the cafeteria during all lunch periods, which is when the students can register to donate blood.
