With the competition just around the corner, A Tribe Called West, Niles West’s poetry slam team, has been practicing harder and longer. We sat down with senior slammer Fil Sguros to discuss the season.
NWN: What are you most excited about?
Sguros: [I’m excited about the] poems, because they were weird, and it’s fun seeing people reacting to them.
NWN: What are you performing this year?
Sguros: “Rastafarian Batman Taco Bell III”, a piece about a Rastafarian Batman going to Taco Bell.
NWN: When is the competition and are you excited about it?
Sguros: [The competition] is this Sunday, and I’m glad I’m performing because it’s really fun being on stage.
NWN: What do you have to say to your classmates and teachers?
Sguros: Tell them to come because we could use the support.
