Niles West’s Orchesis Dance Company will be having their annual performance on March 7 to March 9 in the auditorium at 7:30 p.m.
Orchesis Coach Mindy Armour encourages students to see the show.
“Orchesis gives dancers a chance to experience what it is like to be a professional dancer and exposes them to choreography they may normally never see or dance,” Armour said. “[It] is a fabulous show. Very diverse and energetic.”
According to the dancers, they have been working hard to prepare for their upcoming routines since the summer.
“The [coaches] have scheduled practices on weekends, and we drill every dance. Practices are two hours long, and we go over different kinds of dances, like ballet, jazz, and hip hop. We have choreographers come to teach us different dances. It’s really interesting because when I did poms, I was never exposed to this many different styles of dance,” Orchesis dancer and senior Jane Kwak said.
Senior Froilan Usman, who has been involved in Orchesis for three years, agrees with Kwak.
“Practices are going great from 3:30-6 p.m., and it’s great bonding time and a great learning experience for new Orchesis [members],” Usman said. “It’s going to be one hell of a show. There’s different kinds of dance style,s and it’s going to be super dope.”
Dancers are continuing to rehearse until the day of the show.
“[The dancers] look great, but we still have a lot of work to do.” Armour said.
Tickets can be bought at the door for $10 on performance dates.
