Classic rock songs play as room 1775 fills up on a Wednesday, after school, with students ready to paint and take on new projects; it is the art club meeting. The room is extremely bright with posters on every inch of the wall and paint splattered over the tables. Art club sponsor Christopher Sykora walks around the room to talk to the members and give them some advice regarding their art work.
March is National Youth Art Month and the club is keeping busy by working on a mural they started a little over a month ago. The mural is currently on the walls of the art gallery located above the auditorium.
Freshman Eymber Sommer said she is very pleased by the way the project is turning out.
“The mural is a great way to combine each artist’s style and to learn new techniques,” she said. “It’s really cool to see everyone working in a group effort to create something that becomes more beautiful each time we spend time on it.”
According to Sykora, art club is opened for students to come and work on whatever they want, whether it is related to art class or a club project.
Freshman Carolin Moy said she enjoys going to art club every week.
“The best part of being in art club is the sheer amount of imagination and creative skill gathered in one place,” she said. “It is the best place to be in the middle of a stressful week, and it’s a comfortable place to express yourself through art.”
Sophomore Lucas Yun agrees with Moy and said the club helps him learn a lot.
“If it weren’t for art club, I wouldn’t have been able to learn, experiment, and study how to do certain elements of drawing,” he said.
Sykora said 30 students are enrolled in art club.
Art club meets every Wednesday after school in room 1775.

I feel like it’s really great that Art Club is celebrating national youth art month because it really shows that there is a lot to art. I love the idea of it and think it is great for the students of art club to learn a little bit more about what art really is.
