The Niles West orchestras are scheduled to host their final concert that will take place Thursday, March 21 at 7:30 p.m. in the auditorium.
The energy has been building as all three orchestras work hard on their pieces and hope to perform another successful concert.
“This is our Festival of Orchestras concert, and it is a celebration of all things orchestra. All the groups have worked really hard to prepare for this concert, and it will feature Charlie Jacobs, our concerto award winner, soloing on Mozart’s Flute Concerto. We will also be recognizing our senior orchestra members. It should be a fantastic concert,” orchestra director Steven Katz said.
The seniors will be wearing red carnations on their tuxedos and dresses, as a symbol of accomplishment for their dedication to the program.
“It’s a bittersweet concert for me and all the seniors. It’s our last concert, and I want it to go out with a bang. I’ll miss being orchestra board president and learning to play beautiful music everyday,” orchestra board president Lucy Chang said.
The orchestras will also have the chance to perform again together in May for the Pasta n’ Pops concert. However, this concert is the last one for just orchestral recognition.
Fundraising is a big component that all the orchestras maintain every year. Music parents will be selling fine arts sweatshirts and t-shirts. Also, there will be collections for the food pantry and donation boxes going around.

I think it’s great that the students have come this far being involved in orchestra! They deserve a lot of appretiation for their accomplishments in this field.

It’s sad that it’s the last concert of the year, especially for the seniors. They’re all very talented and I wish them the best of luck!

It’s sad that the orchestra will be disbanding at the end of the year, but at least they will go out with one last great concert (a bang) to leave a final mark on the school and play together one last time. All good things must come to an end.
