Walking into film club, speakers blare and film rolls. Students sit attentively watching “Touch Of Evil” in complete darkness. Their eyes are fixed on the large projector screen and their minds are fixed on the gripping story at hand.
Senior Tony Soldo revived the film club this year and has garnered success.
“I am a huge fan of film, and I was confused as to why there wasn’t already a film club,” Soldo said. “Everybody likes movies; why not have a club about them?”
There was a film club last year, but it was inactive due to lack of interest. Having an active film club this year may not happened, but a club sponsor was found in English teacher Michele Lewis.
“I was asked to do this and I was excited to have an opportunity to do something with students outside of class,” Lewis said. “The students get to choose what we watch in the club, and they have great taste. We also need more younger students to join.”
So far this year, some of the films they have watched include: “The Shining,” “Donnie Darko,” “Harold and Maude,” “Moonrise Kingdom,” and “Touch of Evil.”
Senior John Maku is a regular of the film club and enjoys going.
“I love watching movies, and I want to see some good movies I may have never seen before,” Maku said.
Culture is also important to the revival of the club.
“Movies are a part of culture,”Soldo said. “It sounds like a really good club to have, and it works.”
All students are encouraged to come check out the film club and watch a movie after school on Mondays after school in room 2040.
