The Niles West Auto Club began their run to defend their NHRA Summit Racing Series North Central Division championship at Great Lakes Dragaway in Union Grove, Wisconsin Friday, April 26.
The first event of the season posed some new challenges for the team considering that there was a new driver in the club’s prized 1978 Dodge Aspen.
“The new driver was senior [Aaron] Snowsky. He’s still learning the burnout and launch. It was good for the first time,” Auto Club sponsor and autos teacher Tim Richmond said.
Snowsky’s fastest time down the track out of five runs was 13.9 seconds. Even though the team didn’t take home a win, they did score 10 points for the runs.
The next event will take place Friday, May 3 at Great Lakes Dragaway. Gates open at 6:00 p.m.
