After winning first place in a competition at St. Rita High School last weekend, the Niles West Marching Band will be competing again on Saturday Oct. 12, at 5:00 p.m. at Metamora High School.
Marching Band has won first place in Class A and in Percussion which includes the front ensemble (the mallet instruments that don’t march) and the drum line.
“I am super excited to be performing,” senior Amanda Muir said, “Marching band is so much fun and it is such a rewarding activity. I love to perform in front of people and show them what I can really do. I love competitions especially because we (band) get to perform in front of other bands and other band directors that know exactly what we are doing. It feels really good to get recognized by others. I just love to march and perform. At the end of the day, as long as I know that I have done my best, all is good.”
Senior Cameron Broderick who has been part of Marching Band for four years talks about what he believes drove them to success.
“A factor of our success is the way [Mr. Justin] Johnson holds his rehearsals,” he said, “[it’s] the same way the DCI Drum Corps prepare for Grand Nationals.”
Muir says that the band’s success is pure motivation.
“I feel the band’s success is due to the members motivations,” she said, “This year we have some great freshmen who love to learn about marching band. We also have a fantastic group of leaders that help out. As a whole, the band has a great attitude and strives hard to get better every single [day].”
