Walking into room 1199, you are instantly aware of the positive, eager attitude of the girls sitting at each desk. DIY club was started by freshman Linda Wang and Sophomore Baotrau Le when the two friends came up with the idea of creating a club focusing on a passion of theirs.
“Although we are not an official club yet, we already have a total of fifty five members signed up for DIY Club,” English teacher Christy Koulouris said. “The club instantly attracted mostly young girls to put their skills to a challenge.”
According to Le, the club’s main purpose is to allow students to work on their own to create their own crafts because everyone feels accomplished when they make a craft and can give it away as a gift.
DIY club meets every other Tuesday at 3:30pm and makes a different project each meeting and requires a $5 membership fee for the entire year. For example, they do tie dye shirts, felt animals, chalk board mirrors, and scarves.
“It’s such a joy to be able to witness the excitement and dedication that the students of DIY club have,” Koulouris said. “I really wish Niles West had this club when I was going to school here.”
DIY club has an instagram that students and staff can follow to see all the creative things they make. Follow DIY club @diycraftsnw!
