For the first time in the Niles West music department, band director Justin Johnson and choir director Amy Branahl are scheduled to collaborate in a production of their annual fall concert on Wednesday, Oct. 30 at 7:30 p.m. in the auditorium.
Since the beginning of the school year, the both music groups have been practicing for tomorrow night’s performance. In addition to single band and choir performances, they will be performing songs without the other group.
“I generally pick songs that work well together and I listen to music a lot, so I think that some songs will work better than others in a sequence. As far as concert literature goes, that is pretty much what you do,” Johnson said.
According to freshman Kara Pomer, Branahl lets students pick out songs, but gets the final say in the end.
“She lets us pick up songs at first but the final decision is always hers. We can recommend songs and pick which ones we want to sing out of a list, but Mrs. Branahl always gets to decide what we will sing,” Pomer said.
For the most part, the band and choir students are looking forward to their performance.
“I’m personally looking forward to the band and concert because it will be my first at Niles West and band had been working os hard to improve,” freshman and flutist Jackie Baik said.
“I’m really looking forward to this performance because it is going to be my first. At my old school, Saint Peter’s, we didn’t have chorus,” Kara said.
