To learn more about the German culture, the NWN interviewed German Club member, junior Tristin Minx.
NWN: What is it about the German culture that you love so much, that makes you proud?
German Club: The part of German culture that makes me so proud is the friendliness of the people and the food.
NWN: What are some unique traditions followed by Germans?
German Club: Unique German traditions include dining with strangers, making eye contact during toasts, and saying hello to everyone when they enter a room/car/space. The traditions represent how people-oriented the culture is.
NWN: What is your favorite German holiday?
German Club: My favorite German holiday is Oktoberfest because of the festivities which include food and dancing predominantly.
NWN: How is German Club celebrating international weeks?
German Club: German club is celebrating the international weeks by having songs during passing periods and (our most popular event) the feast [today].
NWN: What is one stereotype people have against Germans and what do you have to say to change that stereotype?
German Club: A stereotype that Germany and the people carry is one of being “drunk” and acting disruptively in public. I feel like people believe this because of the lower drinking age; however, Germans are very responsible drinkers and just enjoy having a fun time with friends.
