Everyone can agree that movies impact our lives. They inspire us, teach us, and motivate us. We admire the actors and actresses, and cheer for their successes. The Oscars are just another reminder of the talent these individuals have and will be remembered for forever. Eighty Six years of acting, directing, art, and pure talent are celebrated and recognized for future generations to admire.
Let’s start with our host. Ellen DeGeneres gave an unforgettable performance. She’s pretty unforgettable all by herself, but when you make her the center of attention on television for the most watched event, she makes history. Her sense of humor and hilarious antics were popular all over Twitter and most social media sites. Her selfie with Jennifer Lawrence, Brad Pitt. Meryl Streep, Bradley Cooper, Julia Roberts, and others was the most talked about picture of the night. It got over a million re-tweets.
Back up to the red carpet, and you will find some of the best dresses ever designed in fashion history. Angelina Jolie was stunning, as well as Jennifer Lawrence, Lupita Nyong’o, Anne Hathaway, Sandra Bullock, Amy Adams, and so many more. The night would also not be complete without Jennifer Lawrence taking a tumble. Rumor has it, she did fall on the red carpet, but not on stage this time. Moments like this are talked about for a lifetime, and never forgotten. This remarkable evening lasts only hours, but is talked about for years.
As unexpected as it may seem, “Gravity” won the most awards of the night; including, best cinematography, film editing, original score, directing, sound editing, sound mixing, and visual effects. As far as sound quality, I think “Gravity” deserved those awards. Capturing the accurate sound and picture for such a film is a challenging task to accomplish. The academy surely recognized that, but did not award this film best picture.
“12 Years A Slave” won Best Picture, as well as best supporting actress, and adapted screenplay. Such a film deserved the awards it received for the message it portrayed and the intense work that went into filming such an inspiring motion picture.
“The Great Gatsby” also received the awards it deserved. They took home best production design and best costume design. Mastering the style of the 1920’s was beautifully articulated and classically portrayed. The jewelry in the film was highly priced by Tiffany and Co. and presented ultimate recognition with winning those academy awards. However, Jay Gatsby did not win the title of best actor. This award was highly anticipated to be won by the famous Leonardo DiCaprio. He is famous for his acting, good looks, and charm, but not his collection of awards. He has never won best actor, and didn’t take home the gold this year either.
Matthew McConaughey won for his role in “Dallas Buyers Club.” McConaughey deserved the award just as much as DiCaprio, and in my opinion, gave one incredible speech.
Another unexpected win was Cate Blanchett’s performance in “Blue Jasmine”. There is no doubt she certainly deserved it. Her speech, attire, and performance were equally amazing.
One movie that was destined to win something was “Frozen.” It won best original song and animated feature. This movie changed the animation world forever, and definitely left an impact on the young audience.
