AP night is scheduled to be held on Tuesday Feb 25. at 6:30 p.m. at Niles West.
The purpose of the event is to expand the knowledge base of the students and parents about the curriculum and about the benefits the students will find by taking an AP class
“Students who have never taken an AP class who are thinking about maybe taking an AP course next year, those are the students who we’re really targeting to come,” college adviser Daniel Gin said. “They can hear about the wonderful curriculum and the wonderful opportunities that AP has to offer.”
Senior Fariha Waheed believes AP provide a different learning opportunity.
“AP classes are great because you’re sort of in this really nice and different learning environment. I think AP classes tend to much more interesting than other classes, and you really get a lot out of them. People should definitely consider them,” Waheed said.
Senior Jessica Donada disagrees with Waheed.
“I think that there’s a lot of pressure on students to take AP classes and score really high in them,” she said. “I think unless the kid is bored in the honor classes then [he/she] shouldn’t take the AP courses. They should only be offered to juniors and seniors. I mean why take college classes in high school?”
