Many of us know him because he’s the youngest of the Leftakes quintet, Mel Leftakes, Lexi Leftakes, Nicole Leftakes, and Mike Leftakes.
“I really feel like a big sister and a role model for him. Honestly, he keeps me in check. Being a second semester senior and Greg being a freshman, he tells me to do my homework. But I love having him around!” senior and sister Melanie said.
“Going into freshmen year, I had a good start with my teachers because a lot of them had my older siblings in class,” Gregory Leftakes said. “I guess I got lucky none of them did anything to make teachers not like them. It’s nice having Mel here because if I ever need anything, she’s just a phone call away and already in the same place as I am.”
Spending his middle school days at Lincoln Hall, Greg was excited to start high school because of the new found freedom he had in picking classes, lunch and study hall flexibilities, and sports.
“I was ready for the freedom,” Greg said. “I love how we are able to get things done during our lunch and study halls and don’t have to be restricted to one place like in middle school. That’s probably my favorite part of high school so far, the freedom.”
In the fall, Greg played football on the B team, but was soon moved up to A team.
“I love football because of the contact involved and being able to hit people without it being a foul. It’s a really good way to relieve anger,” Greg said.
“I never really like track because of the fact that you had to run in a straight line for all of a couple seconds and then you were done. My friend, freshman Sokol Delisi, told me that he was going to sign up for pole vaulting, and I was suddenly interested. I signed up, and I am so glad I did because now I’m a part of the track team and I don’t really have to run!” Greg said.
Cubs fans are forever, and they definitely pass that trait down to their children, which is exactly the type of family Greg was born into. This inspired him to play baseball.
“I started off playing t-ball and continued to move up the ladder to more competitive teams, and now I plan on trying out for the baseball team this spring,” Greg said. “Baseball has just always been a part of me.”
Greg hopes to play three sports a year to become a twelve sport athlete.
“All I want is to survive my four years of high school and go on to attend a good college and continue playing sports.”
