After a successful concert Thursday, Mar. 13 from the Niles West orchestras, it was the University of Iowa’s turn to perform Friday, Mar. 14 during homeroom, 4th, and 5th period.
“I was excited to see what a college-level orchestra plays. It was a great experience to see so many talented students perform,” said junior cello player Sahar Jiwani.
The orchestra played four beautiful pieces, including a piano concerto with renowned piano player, Ksenia Nosikova. Nosikova is a piano professor at the University of Iowa, and has performed all around the world.
Conductor, William Jones is the director of Orchestral Studies,Graduate conducting and a collegiate fellow at the University of Iowa. Jones conducted at Niles West when the school won the Kennedy Award, and continues to work as a guest conductor and clinician all over the country.
“It was an excellent concert and it was great to see such high musicianship overall. They did a wonderful job,” said Niles West orchestra director Steven Katz.
The orchestra performed the previous night at Highland Park High School.
