On Tuesday, April 15th, 12 AP psychology students participated in the annual Psychology Bowl competition at the College of DuPage.
The following students participated: Richmond Landicho, Qudsiya Fatima, Hafsa Wahid, Suha Mohiuddin, Irein Thomas, Aisha Patel, Sebastian Sulewski, Hubiba Ali, Sergei Lemesh, Thea Gonzales, Natalie Palmer, and Emma Lazar alongside coaches and psychology teachers Stefanie Akwa and Lauren Flahive.
Niles West first took part in the white board round in which they tied for first place with Stevenson. In the first buzzer round, West beat GBS convincingly. In the third round, West lost to York but still managed to place first among all schools due to its higher score. Advancing to the championships, West was against Hersey who they managed to defeat by a large margin.
“I am extremely proud of the 12 students that competed. They worked tremendously hard and committed themselves to preparing for the Psych Bowl for 2 weeks and it certainly paid off. It is such a great review opportunity as well for students in terms of preparing for the national exam coming up in May,” said psychology bowl coach Flahive.
This was West’s first time winning first place. In order to continue performing well, Flahive hopes to get more people to attend psych bowl practice sessions.
“Goals for next year would include getting the word out more about this competition to all the AP Psych students in the building as well as promoting the Psych Bowl practices to students not on the team so they can benefit from the review as well,” Flahive said.
