Monday, Apr. 21st at 7 a.m., a one mile run was held at the outdoor track to commemorate those who were affected by the Boston Marathon Bombing last year.
Today marks the 118th Boston Marathon which takes place every year on Patriots Day, a holiday remembering the Battles of Lexington and Concord 1775. Social Studies teacherĀ Chris Schwarz and Physical Welfare teacherĀ Tony Konsewicz are organizing this community event to celebrate Patriots Day, and, like the Boston Marathon, focus attention on last year’s terrorist attack.
“Even though the bombing didn’t happen here, we still remember and this 1 mile was a small gesture to bring awareness of the one year anniversary of the tragedy during last year’s marathon,” Schwarz said.
To Schwarz, the Boston Marathon holds a very personal value because he grew up in Boston and remembers attending the Marathon.
“Growing up, my best memory was going to the Boston Marathon on Patriots Day and watching everyone run. The bombing came as a shock to everyone, and brought sadness to everyone. I think it is really important for people to be aware of what went and, and not stand afraid,” Schwarz said.
