Niles West Boys Gymnastics faced off against Highland Park and fellow undefeated conference opponent Deerfield in a tri-meet on Tuesday April 23. The Wolves gymnasts walked out victorious over both of their opponents in the end, leaving Niles West the only undefeated team in the CSL conference.
The team saw stellar contributions from a variety of members. Timmy La had a high score of 9.0 on pommel horse, beating his previous high of 8.8. Junior Jordan Goldberg had an 8.8 on Vault and senior Andy Tran scored a team high 8.7 on Parallel Bars– which was also his season high thus far. Senior Harris Khan took the team high score on High Bar and Dalai Jamiyankhuu took high honors on still rings and floor exercise.
Head coach Adrian Batista was impressed with the teams ambition for success and their strong work ethic to achieve their lofty goals.
“They are relentless in practice and have a high level of focus during the meets. This team is one of the best teams I have ever coached,” he said, “and I truly hope they can reach the goals they have placed in front of themselves. Gymnastics is a very difficult and competitive sport. To rise to the level this team has reached takes a lot of hard work and dedication. I am enjoying watching this varsity team do things that has not been done at Niles West in years.”
The Wolves will look to claim the conference title on Thursday at the CSL Conference meet held at Niles West Thursday, May 1 6:00 p.m.
