The executives and dancers of Dance Marathon had their annual Dance Marathon event last Saturday in the Niles West wrestling gym.
Raising $72,193.14, the participants of Dance Marathon were thrilled to have raised that amount of money for the charity, CROSO. The Child Restoration Outreach Support Organization was founded by a Niles West alumni, Molly Heinemann, after her life-changing study abroad work in Uganda. This nonprofit organization aims to help children and young adults living on the streets to successfully complete primary and secondary schooling, as well as go beyond that with university and technical school programs. With CROSO, this organization supplements another non-governmental organization C.R.O. The Child Restoration Organization also provides children and young adults in Uganda with food and social support.
This year’s Dance Marathon was a little bit different, since the event took place in the wrestling gym at West and not in the main gym. Olivia Schoenfeldt, one of the senior Dance Marathon executives, thought it was a good idea.
“In the past years the space has been too big and this year it was just the perfect amount of space to keep people dancing, together, and engaged in the night,” Schoenfeldt said.
As a Dance Marathon executive, many tasks had to be done before the event. Executives had many errands to finish, ranging from planning a reception for alumnus to slotting times for certain performances. These performances included poms, orchesis and auroris, and others. The other committees that helped plan for the night included public relations, finance, community outreach, registration, and food.
