Due to a teacher’s strike at Waukegan High School, tonight’s varsity football game against the Bulldogs has been canceled.
The Bulldogs must forfeit against the Wolves, leaving West with a 5-1 record and a playoff berth likely.
“Based on the history of teams making the ISHA playoffs, we will have enough points to make the playoffs,” head coach varsity Scott Baum said.
Baum explained that five-win record doesn’t automatically clinch a spot in the playoffs; however, in the past all teams with 5-4 records and 35-38 points (combined total of opponent wins) have made it to the playoffs.
Senior quarterback Tommy Galanopoulos said he was disappointed he wouldn’t get a chance to play Waukegan.
“It’s frustrating because of how much we prepared this week but it gives a much needed break and a long week of practice for our biggest test this year against Maine South,” he said.
The Wolves will take on Maine South next Friday, Oct. 10 followed by games against New Trier and Glenbrook South.
Varsity soccer game against Waukegan was also canceled. The team now has a record of 5-11.

At least we won’t have anyone injured for the Maine south game!
