The varsity football team beat Glenbrook South 35-31 in their last home and regular game of the season Friday night, Oct. 24, providing the school with a senior night victory. The team heads to the postseason with a record of six wins and three losses.
According to IHSA, the varsity football team made it into the 2014 Playoffs for the third year in a row.
Head Coach Scott Baum said he felt that the team’s hard work has started to reap benefits.
“It’s a great feeling, this is something that we have worked on all season and it’s good to know that over these past few years, we put ourselves into a good place,” he said , “and set ourselves up for nothing but victories and success.”
Senior quarterback Tommy Galanopoulos said he is grateful for another opportunity to play a game of Niles West football.
“It’s awesome knowing that my senior year gets to be a little bit longer while other schools seasons have already ended. I think it’s exciting getting another chance to play Maine South,” he said, “because we did not play well as a team the first time and hopefully we will get in a better game this time around,” he said.
According to Baum, the team will play undefeated conference rival Maine South in an away game in the first round of the playoffs this weekend. The schedule is still being finalized for this upcoming weekend and can be found either on the IHSA website and follow NWN Sports on Twitter for updated information on when the boys play.
