Starting today, German exchange students will be coming to Niles West for the exchange program. This is the 10th anniversary for the exchange program. 25 students and two teachers have come to Skokie from Schönborn, Germany.
The German students will have a breakfast and welcome reception on Monday at 7:15 in the South Lobby. On Tuesday, exchange students will attend sessions at Niles West about classes not offered in their school such as Broadcasting, Chinese, Theatre, Adventure Education, Engineering, Cooking, and Art.
“It feels like just yesterday that I had decided to host a person from Germany and now she is actually [here]! I have been texting, snapchatting and talking to her on Facebook and I feel like I already know her but it will be amazing to talk to her face to face,” senior Delanie Kwiecinski said.
For Wednesday, exchange students will take a tour of the Chicago-land area, stopping at places like the police station, Village Hall, Central Park Fire Station, and Northwestern University. On Thursday, exchange students will tour the Federal Reserve and Millenium Park. On Friday, they will be taking a lake and river tour, tour the John Hancock building, touring the Museum of Modern Art and shopping on Michigan Avenue.
On Sunday, they will be attending a Halloween themed party and on Monday, October 20th, they will be on a flight to New York.
“I’m really excited about the German exchange! I’m interested to learn all about their culture and see the differences between ours and theirs. It’s going to be a really cool experience,” senior Briana Hester said, “especially because I’ve been taking German for four years.”
