Ever seen a girl with bouncy, curly, blonde hair, and pink Doc Martens? Then, you’ve probably seen senior Skylar Chatman strolling through the hallways the with her edgy style.
NWN: Describe your style.
Chatman: I’d say my style is punk/grunge and kind of edgy.
NWN: What’s your go-to outfit or make-up?
Chatman: My go-to make up is always a winged black eyeliner with a healthy amount of mascara. I wouldn’t say I have a go to outfit, but when I don’t know what to wear I usually just wear all black.
NWN: What’s your favorite piece of clothing? Why?
Chatman: My favorite piece of clothing is probably my pink doc martins. They go with everything and add a good pop of color for my mostly black outfits.
NWN: How do you work with your hair?
Chatman: The older I get the easier it gets to work with it. I just comb it when its wet, put curling product in it and that’s basically it. Honestly, I used to hate my hair when I was younger and I just wanted it to be straight, but that’s boring and typical. Now, I really love my hair. I think it’s unique and different, which matches my personality.
NWN: What advice do you have to give to people with similar hair as you?
Chatman: My tip is if you have curly hair, do not straighten your hair. Love it, embrace it, buy a pick and a good leave in conditioner and just let it be. It was made to be curly, so let it be curly.
NWN: What’s your favorite style tip?
Chatman: Nothing has to match in an outfit. It just has to go together. There’s a big difference between those two. Also, dress however you want. Being “fashionable” or not is really just a matter of opinion.
