"Cristian Volkmann" CEC Basketball Tournament to be Held Tomorrow

The CEC basketball team will be playing in the “Cristian Volkmann” tournament this Saturday, Feb. 21 at Maine West High School.

“This year there are three district teams instead of North and West teams at the Maine West tournament. Our students are extremely excited and have been practicing very hard. CEC basketball is the highlight of many students’ year. Our students really appreciate the support they get from other students, cheerleaders and basketball players. They are excited to participate and this gives them a chance to be part of a team,” CEC club sponsor Mary Jo Schnabel said.

The event is widely anticipated according to President of CEC club, Jesse Sacks.

“It is a great event- many different special education programs from various schools throughout the area participate in the tournament. The special education students put in a lot of hard work in preparation for the tournament.It is a wonderful event- I enjoy watching the students have the opportunity to work together to form a cohesive team,” he explained.

Students are encouraged to attend and support their peers.

“I would encourage students to attend the tournament. The players deserve support and encouragement for their hard work. The impact that fans would have on the special needs students is truly incredible,” Sacks added.

Tip off begins at 10 AM, so don’t forget to join the CEC students as they play tomorrow!
