Six Niles West students will be attending the first state competition in visual arts this Sunday, Mar. 1 from 12:30-3:30 p.m. at the Zhou B Art Center in Chicago. The NWN got insight on what the day will be like from visual arts instructor, John Zilewicz.
“This is an opportunity to connect the students to art schools, art professionals, and art advocacy. There will be a college fair from universities nation wide to talk to the students and view their portfolios,” he said.
One hundred high schools will be competing for the ten thousand dollars worth of prizes and five-million dollars in scholarship money. This is a huge opportunity for the six students from Niles West that will be judged for their best six works for final judging. The artists are:

Fiori Note– Photography
Querina Babbo– Drawing
Eymber Sommer– Painting
Christine Lee– Graphic Design
Lucas Yun– Time Arts
