Timbuktu, supercalifradgilistivexpealidocious, artzapalooza, exponentialism, and garbanzo. One of these crazy words is happening at Niles West. It’s Artzapalooza, an event for the arts, showcasing Niles West acapella groups, theater improv troupe, Orchesis, slam poetry, jazz band, percussion ensemble, orchestra, visual arts, and step team.
In the Robert L. Johnson Auditorium at 7pm on Friday, experience Niles West fine arts like you’ve never seen it before. With a combination of poetry, music, acting, dancing, singing, and free admission, you can’t go wrong with Artzapalooza.
Sophomore Jimbo Pestano explains the merging event. “Yes, I’m involved with it! Guys & Dolls is performing. Originally Artzapalooza used to be known as Voices Only which was a concert at the end of the year for the a cappella groups. Then, last year they merged Niles West Theatre’s improv troupe with the event and renamed it Artzapalooza. This year they decided to have all aspects of the fine arts department be showcased.”
Senior Diana Badasyan tells of her eager attitude for Artzapalooza. “It’s our last big performance of the school year and, being a senior, it’s High Fidelity’s last big performance and I’m really excited were doing a new song.”
With groups such as High Fidelity performing new songs like Fly by Nicki Minaj, One Love by Bob Marley, and So Beautiful by Superchick, the Artzapalooza event has much in store.
